Health, Safety & Environment Manager

As a key member of our Environmental, Health and Safety team, the successful candidate would champion and promote a strong safety culture across all company project sites. This includes ensuring timely reporting and open communications with the management team. The individual will maintain and regularly review all related documentation in line with legal and corporate requirements, issue updates and ensure documentation is easily available to all personnel as well as provide training as and when required.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support and promote a strong safety culture with strong interdisciplinary engagement
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Corporate and Project HSE policies, procedures and practices.
  • Develop and execute plans with the Project Manager, Site Supervisor, Operations, Supply Chain and the Project Contractors
  • Ensure operations are conducted in a manner to minimize loss to company property, equipment and the environment.
  • Conduct and coordinate regular safety policy training, hands on safety education, general awareness training and site safety orientations as required.
  • Oversee the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly HSE reports, statistics and presentations related to HSE performance for the project.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop controls for onsite activities.
  • Establish and maintain the incident investigation and reporting process including the follow up on corrective actions.
  • Ensuring that all incident reports and investigations are completed and recorded in a timely, and accurate manner.
  • Monitoring the investigation of incidents and injuries; ensuring that corrective actions are taken; and ensuring recommendations for ways to prevent similar incidents result.
  • At site, the HSE will take direction on non-HSE policies from the Construction Manager and will coordinate activities to support construction.
  • Ensure that housekeeping is maintained at a high level through the elimination of hazardous materials or other unsafe conditions that could cause harm to people or property.
  • Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws or reporting requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Certifications:

  • The ideal applicant would have a relevant post-secondary education and/ or certification in Occupational Health and Safety Management in conjunction with a professional (CRSP, CHSC, CSO) designation complemented by 5-10 years of progressive day to day EH&S project experience.
  • Certification and ability to perform EH&S system audits (COR).
  • Previous experience with civil construction and/or remote camp services on pipeline projects would be a definite asset.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Project.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have Construction Safety Training System (CSTS-09)
  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test required
